Incident Types and Subtypes

Listed below is a complete list of the incident categories that the Office of the Learning Environment uses for PAIR reports.

Gendered/Sexist Incidents (Title IX Reports)

  • Unwanted sexual or romantic advances
  • Asked to exchange sexual favors for grades/rewards
  • Other sexual harassment
  • Denied opportunities for training/rewards based on gender
  • Offensive gender/sexist remarks/behaviors, including microaggressions
  • Received lower evaluations or grades because of gender
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Sexual Violence
  • Other gendered/sexist incident

Other Incidents

  • Negative or offensive remarks/behaviors directed at personal beliefs or personal characteristics other than gender, race/ethnicity, or sexual orientation
  • Received lower evaluations or grades because of characteristics other than gender, race/ethnicity, or sexual orientation
  • Other discrimination/differential treatment
  • Retaliation
  • Intimidation/Threaten to retaliate
  • Psychological cruelty
  • Required to perform personal (nonsexual) services
  • Other incident type

Physical Incidents

  • Threatened with physical harm
  • Unwanted or unnecessary physical contact of a non-sexual nature
  • Physically harmed
  • Other physical incident

Racial/Ethnic Incidents

  • Denied opportunities for training/rewards based on race or ethnicity
  • Racially or ethnically offensive remarks/behaviors, including microaggressions
  • Received lower evaluations or grades because of race or ethnicity
  • Other racial/ethnic incident

Research Incidents

  • Research misconduct
  • Unfair/poor treatment of individuals in research settings
  • Research retaliation
  • Research obstruction
  • Mentor unwilling or unable to fulfill mentorship duties
  • Other research incidents

Sexual Orientation-Related Incidents (Title IX Reports)

  • Denied opportunities for training or rewards based on sexual orientation
  • Offensive remarks/behaviors related to sexual orientation, including microaggressions

Suboptimal Education Incidents

  • Curriculum concern

Student Professionalism

Verbal Incidents
